about us

our mission:

Our mission is to craft beautiful, art-forward stories that nurture emotional well-being and mindful growth. We create quiet moments of connection in a busy world, offering children—and readers of all ages—a gentle space to explore fundamental human values, internal happiness, and self-worth.

our philosophy:

We believe that a book should be a tactile, visual sanctuary. Rooted in a deep appreciation for intentional design, traditional hand-drawn illustration, and thoughtful typography, our stories are crafted to encourage a slower, more deliberate reading experience. By blending fresh, translucent watercolors with mindful, value-based storytelling, we build worlds—from the gentle journey of a certain tortoise named Morty to new adventures yet to unfold—that speak directly to the heart.

our values:

Mindful Pacing: Drawing on a foundation of mindful practice, our books are paced to encourage a quiet, grounded reading experience that helps children build a healthy relationship with themselves and the world around them.

Artistic Integrity: We celebrate the warmth of traditional ink and watercolor, viewing every spread and every line of text as an essential, integrated design element.

emotional resonance:

We champion stories that elicit a genuine "heart-tug," guiding readers toward internal joy, self-love, and life-affirming dreams.

why we are here:

In an increasingly fast-paced and digital landscape, Rhe.Rheade.Books was founded to give families a reason to pause. Our books are designed to be shared, offering parents, educators, and children a peaceful retreat to breathe, connect, and plant the seeds for a joyful life.

about the author

Rhe Rheade is the pen name of Rhé Wessels, an author and illustrator who brings a rich, multidisciplinary background in the visual arts and mindful practice to her storytelling.

Based in South Africa, her creative journey spans an extensive career as a typography-focused graphic designer, a university lecturer, and a ceramicist. Her distinctive visual aesthetic is deeply informed by her appreciation for Japanese culture and the thoughtful art of Ikebana, which beautifully comes to life through her traditional ink and translucent watercolor illustrations.

As an accredited Iyengar Yoga instructor, she naturally weaves the principles of mindfulness into her narratives, crafting gentle, value-based books that offer children and their families a quiet, grounded space to explore their inner worlds.

Rhé holds qualifications in Graphic Design, Ceramics and Yoga. This unique blend of technical precision and fine art experience underpins the careful composition, intentional design and mindfulness of every Rhe Rheade Books publication.
